The 2012 Tour of Elk Grove - Photos 2 Time Trials

One of the time trial cyclists on Tonne Road. Tonne Road is the divided road east of the finish line that seperates the commercial area (to the east) and the residential area (to the west). There is a 90 degree turn from Tonne Road to Elk Grove Blvd which is one of the places where you can watch the cyclists leaning way over into the curve.

This is the concession and vendor area just behind the start/finish line near Audubon Park. The photo above was during the time frials on Friday afternoon so there were not many people at the event yet. This is also where we took shelter from the huge storm that blew in later in day on Saturday (that cleared out almost all the spectators too).

This is the turn at Tonne Road and Elk Grove Blvd that I was explaining above. I took a lot of photos from this location since I liked seeing the cyclists in action and coming around the curve. I would have liked to have zoomed in more for the individual cyclists during the time trials but it was hard to get the shot since they were moving so fast.

Taking the corner at a conservative angle in this case. The photos from this location during the race, with multiple riders, were much more dramitic. I plan on studying the routes and events for next years race to find more photo locations.

This cyclist was a little more aggressive on the turn. I talked to another photographer at this corner who told me that he had been coming to this event and taking photos for years (he was a real photography enthusiast) and he told me that he actually has photos of sparks from some of the more aggressive cyclists pedals hitting the pavement. 

And this rider, with his team car chasing him looked like he was getting serious about getting a good time.

It can be hard to tell from the still photos how fast these guys are actually going.
